Gabriel Axel
Gabriel Axel embarked on the yogic path upon initially asking, “What is it that makes us fully human?” Beginning with a commitment to understanding the inner workings of the brain, he completed Bachelor and Master’s degree programs in Neuroscience & Cognition that toured University of Florida, Utrecht University (the Netherlands), UCLA and Harvard University, and culminated with a Master’s thesis on the intersection of vision, art, and evolution. Upon realizing that he must consciously embody his own evolutionary impulse in order to apprehend consciousness, Gabriel decided to dedicate his life to the transformation of self and others through study, practice, and service.
A licensed Skanda Yoga Teacher, Gabriel invites practitioners to use yoga as a technology that opens the body and heart. He believes that the practice of yoga is a mirror for who we are each moment and thus a tool for fostering self-awareness and compassion. His teaching style is at once empathic and challenging, calling us to honor ourselves and face our fears in order to empower our own human revolution. Gabriel continues dedicated training with Ken von Roenn III and Lina Vallejo, the founders of Skanda Yoga, and supplements yoga with musical composition and performance.
